Why I Decided To Go Cruelty Free

Don't panic, this isn't one of those posts forcing my views onto anyone who reads this, it is merely my reasons for making some small changes to my lifestyle recently.

I've often thought about becoming a vegetarian and looking at whether or not the products I buy have been tested on animals but that's as far as I ever got with it.  I annoyed myself because I couldn't work out why I had spent so much time thinking about something but had never done anything more about it.  Well all of that changed in December when I decided to act upon it and actually do something       about it.

It started by looking more at the products I use. I was shocked by how many of them are indeed tested on animals.  It annoys me that in this day in age with all of the knowledge and technology we have that this is still so widely done.  I know it is law in China for their products to be tested on animals but there really needs to be more companies who do not allow testing to be done.

Knowing a few other people who have recently been swapping out their beauty products for cruelty free alternatives this has been easier than I thought it would be.  I have been using up the products I already own, however when it comes to replacing them I have been doing so with products that display that very happy bouncing bunny logo.  Although I have been very happy to see that some favourites such as Batiste Dry Shampoo that I use already, do not test on animals.

I already knew about companies such as Lush and The Body Shop but it has been interesting to learn about others.  Superdrug has definitely been my go to shop for most of my purchases as their range of cruelty free products has been pretty impressive and I've also been really pleased with the quality too.  I have also found that the supermarkets own branded items are also cruelty free which seems interesting as they are also the cheaper items too.  It makes you wonder doesn't it.

I personally think that branding is a big thing and I know from personal preference I have often swayed away from own branded products purely down to the packaging and the way it looks.  Oh how times have changed.

Having begun the process of swapping my products out for cruelty free, I questioned myself about the fact that I no longer wish to use products that have been tested on animals, however I am more than happy to eat one?! Madness right! And so it was at that point that I decided to go vegetarian too.

I honestly thought the whole transition would be really difficult and that I would struggle, in fact it has been really easy and I feel so much better for it.  It is a change that I have been very happy to make and I am glad that I have finally taken that step.

If anyone can recommend some good cruelty free bands I'd be really pleased to hear from you.  Once you know the places to look it makes it all the more easier to be more aware.
