My Thoughts & Recent Moments on Instagram

Not only have I not been posting much here on the blog but I've not been putting a whole lot on my Instagram grid either.  I've just not been feeling all that motivated at all.

Do you ever get that feeling when you take a picture with all good intentions of posting it to Instagram but look at it and think to yourself, 'No, it's not how I hoped it would turn out' or 'This really isn't something I'm happy to post on my feed'?  I have been getting this a lot lately.  Even to the point of actually forcing myself to post something purely because I hadn't posted in a while.

For me personally it has a lot to do with the new algorithm thing, I hate it.  I don't like to be negative, but that is just how it is.   It seems to me that those with huge follower numbers get all the engagement and those with fewer followers are forgotten about and hardly ever seen.

I know it is not all about the likes and follower numbers, far from it, but when I look at the number of likes I get to the number of followers I have it just doesn't add up, the numbers really don't seem to align at all.  The amount of likes and comments I receive now in comparison to before the new algorithm has dropped dramatically and it has left me feeling a little deflated, I'm sure I am not alone in this.

I know I just need to find my way again and I'm sure it will come.  It's time to try and forget about the numbers of likes and followers, take my time with it and continue posting what I want more for myself than anything else.

  1. Hi Gem

I can't say I have noticed the likes thing over on instagram. I don't have a huge following but those I do have seem to stay loyal and continue to like and comment. May be its one of those things that goes in waves. I've only just come back to blogging after being away for 18 months and have started to pick up the threads again. Sometimes I think you just have to strip things right back and start again and get a new perspective on things. I hope you get sorted out. What a handsome young man to take you out to lunch.

  2. And it’s getting worse!! When you look at the insights under each post it shows you how many people are seeing them. I don’t know about you but as a % mine is laughable!! Instagram has really messed up what used to be a great interactive platform. It is disheartening. The only way I guess to make it better for ourselves, surprise surprise, is to pay for sponsored posts. (I hate these on my feed so wouldn’t ever want to *be* a sponsored post!)

    1. It's really bad isn't it. I used to get really good engagement, now I just can't be bothered with it. I still like using the app purely as a way to share my photos but as far as interaction goes, that is long gone which is a real shame xx
