A Living Room Update

So we have been in our little home now for just over a year.  Yes, hasn't that year flown by, and do you know what?! I am still loving every second of it.  It is literally like living my dream.  Not long after we had moved in I wrote a series of posts showing you around our little home, however I noticed that I never re-visited the living room which at the time was still somewhat un-finished.

The sofa and arm chair were cover less, we were without a TV stand and to be honest it was lacking in my opinion that homely feeling that I had managed to achieve in some of the other rooms.  In actual fact there were some rooms that weren't even visited at all, perhaps that is something I should change, watch this space.

The sofa and arm chair are now covered in yes, floral covers (I love a bit of floral, and a bit of Ikea)

The TV is stood on a lovely pine cabinet.

And our new bookcase that I mentioned in my last post, I know I included this photo before, but thought I'd show you its position in the room.

This is the room we probably spend most of our time.  It is where I have sat to type out this post.  It is where I sit to knit and cross stitch.  It is where we naughtily sit and eat our dinner from our laps, even though there is a dining room with a perfectly good table just next door.  It is without doubt the cosiest room in our home and definitely the warmest room (the bungalow does get very chilly during these colder months).  It is also my most favourite room in our little home for all of the above reasons.

Turning The Page

Reading is something that I tend to do every day albeit for a small percentage of my day, usually once I've gotten into bed, and usually not for too long as my eyes soon begin to feel very heavy, so it tends to take me quite some time to read a book.  Never the less I thought I'd start to share with you some of the books I enjoy reading.  I'm hoping this will be something I can continue to do over time, obviously without giving away too much, I don't want to spoil anyone's fun by giving away all the best bits of a book.

For Christmas this year myself and James received a fairly large number of books.  We both enjoy reading and since moving in together just over a year ago now, have begun to develop a collection of reference books, alongside our already growing collection of fiction books.  So much so it has called for having to invest in a bookcase.

I'm going to kick start my book posts with some of the reference books that are currently residing in our bookcase.

One of my favourite collection of books that we received as a joint present for Christmas were these self sufficiency beauts.  They represent me and James so well and I'm sure will be used well over the years.  I'd definitely recommend them to anyone who likes the idea of a thrifty or self sufficient lifestyle.

Another favourite, again received as a Christmas gift is this lovely book, Pearl Lowe's Vintage Craft.

With a huge range of different crafts to try, to suit a range of abilities.  I love the choice of images and from time to time have happily sat just flicking through the pages admiring the pictures.

Lastly for today I have chosen to share this gorgeous book, Vintage Flowers by Vic Brotherson.

One I bought for myself last summer.  Definitely one to sit and admire the images, they are all just so beautiful.

In actual fact, since looking at similar books on Amazon, I have spotted a  Vintage Wedding Flowers book also by Vic Brotherson, it look's fantastic.  Excuse me while I just skip over and pop it in my basket.

Happy reading,

Bloglovin

Hello lovely people,

Things in my life have been somewhat shaken up in the past month or so.  Things change all the time, I know that, but there have been some changes I would rather have been without.  Things still haven't really settled down but I'm trying to regain some kind of structure in my life.

My blog is something that has taken a back seat for some time now, but in all honestly I miss this little space.  For the past year (OK it has been slightly longer than that but who's counting?!) I've struggled to find the time to blog, I've not always known what to blog about or I've just not been able to find the words to express what it is that I am trying to say, but I'm hoping that is all about to change.

I need to make the time, I need to make this space work for me, and there is no time like the present.  My mind is buzzing with ideas and things I'd like to share with you all.  I'm looking forward to the next chapter on my blog and hope we can enjoy the journey together, having some fun along the way.

To start me off I have finally joined Bloglovin, yes I know the rest of you joined up months ago.  I can be a bit of a technophobe and never really understood it, but after talking to a bloggy friend of mine the other week, over a nice cuppa she convinced me that it is something I need in my life.  So I've bitten the bullet and joined.  I'm hoping it will make my life easier and allow me to catch up with you all.  at the moment I am still reading blog posts that you all wrote back in November (yes I am that behind!, but determined to catch up)

So I guess I'll be seeing you there.  In the meantime I'll be thinking up and planning my next post.  See you soon,

Love Gem x x x
